Missing/abundant features:

I would like a button to jump to the first un-synch-ed file or directory in the directory tree view.

Bug report:

I didn't find any bugs!!! And I am very satisfied with your product. Treecomp made, what would normally be very tedious work a lot easier. Great to find a piece of shareware that really does what it promises to do!!!

Missing/abundant features:

I'm using it to synchronise two local versions of a web site via a ZIP drive. A missing feature for me is the ability to copy all newer or missing files from one tree to the other at once, rather than a directory at a time.

Bug report:

When selecting the directory to compare, picking on the tree does not change the path in the drop down combo box, as it should. Other than that, it's an excellent piece of work. Well done.

Missing/abundant features:

0) "SuperSyncer" would be a right name. Really useful program, worth more than $15. But: 1) after selecting directories and comparing I'd like to move around the tree without TreeComp insisting on comparing again (when comparing by content, if large files or large number of files it's annoying and not needed). TreeComp should either not compare what it's already compared or comparisons should be a button that it's triggered by the user on the file or folder selected - this behaviour's better) 2) Refreshing the screen when working and being able to cancel the work in progress would be a real plus. Also progress bars not only when copying. 3) I use it as my general copy tool. A more "Windows Explorer like" interface would be the ultimate gizmo. With such a interface you select a destination folder ("Explorer-like") and whatever you drag and drop to it is compared, or copied and verified if control-key+dropping. I know some more "design" should go into this proposal.

Bug report:

Yes. When trying to duplicate and verify a disk using "Sync Left to Right" TreeComp failed because of too many files and folders (11.447 files, 3.516 dirs, 15.1 GB). It looked to me that some Delphi control was overflowed - sorry, can't replicate the problem right now, but I'll do if you request.

When comparing between a windows and unix machine, "Compare by time" and "Compare by content" have some issues... If the unix host is set to keep its clock time in GST (which many are...they use software to report "true" local time), compare by time reports the GST time for the Unix host. Also would be nice to have option to ignore linefeed/newline differences between Unix & Windows hosts. A little checkbox for each of those cases would be a nice addition. =) Good software.

It will be an improvement (I use Outlook Express for my mails and each time Oe is opened it change all dates of all folders (files) even if there is no change). So when I want to synchro these folders and there backup I can't know witch was really changed. Compare by content is too long ! Many thanks csc

Very good program. The Sync "Left to Right" & "Right to Left" feature is somewhat confusing and could be interperted exactly opposite the way it works. You need to add a "Blue Right-pointing arrow" to the menu "Sync Left to Right" & a "Red Left-pointing arrow" to the menu "Sync Right to Left". That's if I understand the meaning correctly? Additionally, it would be better to have the "File/Dir filter in/out drop down menus" on the main screen. If that's not possible (probably too crowded) then at least put them on the same menu where you select Directories so when you change directories you don't have to exit that menu and open up the "preferences" menu to change the directory in/out filter. Will provide other comments later, as I've only just used the program for 1 day now. Otherwise think it's a super program.

Bug report:

None so far, only just started using the program. Will let you know if I run in to any. Are you planning on continuing to update the program?

Bug report:

I'm using TreeComp v.3.7. I copied new files between my ftp server to my local drive. The new files were given the timestamp of when the sync happened, not the timestamp of the original files. So now Treecomp thinks the newly created files are newer than, rather than the same as, the files from which they were copied. Is there a preference or setting I need to change here? Having it work this way makes an otherwise extremely useful program a lot less so.

When I ask it to copy a file from zip#1 to zip#2 the file some times disapears from the treecomp diplay BUT IT IS "NOT" COPIED TO THE #2 ZIP FILE. i CREATED 2 VERY SIMPLE ZIP FILES WITH 5 FILES IN #1 AND 4 IN #2 AND THEN ASK TREECOMP TO COMPARE THEM. Treecomp reported that 1 file was missing from the #2 zip file. I selected to copy the file from zip#1 to Zip#2 and it looked like it did but the file was not present in the #2 zip. The zip files were very simple (NO SPECIAL CONDITIONS). I am running Windows ME,1.2GHZ Athalon (Micron computer). Running winzip 8.0 Please advise if treecomp is suppose to be able to copy from 1 Zip file Into Another or is it simply an apearance compare. I have been playing with this for days. PLEASE ADVISE. Just to qualify my NO for the $15 question. Unfortunately US$15 = AUS$30 which is a bit too much when I have around 20 freeware utilities. If they all cost me $30 that equates to $600.

Option to store 'pairs of compared directories', I run two web sites, one for home and one for a model car club, and it is a pain to swap back and forth.

Bug report:

Slow ftp links seem to cause problems, directories are marked blue round or black round, refresh sometimes doesn't fix this. TreeComp is still a great little utility though, and for maintaining a web page via ftp it is fantastic!

Excellent. I've been using it for a year to synchronize my laptop with my desktop. I could not live without it. Could it be improved? Well, it remembers the last tree compared, but it would be nice if it could also remember the last 2 or 3 via a picklist.

No bugs found. Sometimes seems a bit quirky, but nearly always due to unusual file-attributes.

Great Program! Hope development is going on. Suggestion: It should be possible to mark one side in Treecomp as "write protected". So you could avoid data loss when clicking on the wrong buttons or confusing left and right. Happens sometimes with me, it's just an idea. Ok, I admit that you have to confirm copying and deletion of files when synchronizing.

Bug report:

In the last few times I used Treecomp's "synchronize from left to right" and I noticed that the program is sometimes unable to delete empty folders. I copies all files correctly and deletes all files only on right side, but it refuses to delete some resulting empty folders on the right side. I have to do it by hand with another program. I run Windows XP SP1 (german), left side is NTFS and right side is FAT32 formatted and connected through firewire/USB 2.0. Can you confirm this problem?

When synchronizing with a backup on CDRW with roxio/Direct CD. On XP with SP1. For some directories the programe crash. Then the directory is not considered present and if tring to synchronize an error is displayed telling that the directory cannot be created. If the directory on the CD is suppressed, synchronization again crash treeComp. The problem remains if the directory is created empty when trying to synchronize the files. I was not able to find a clue in the content of the directories

Missing/abundant features:

This is the only program I have been able to find that would sync a local directory from a ftp server without having to download the entire site each time. This is important for me because I am syncing over 6 gigs to several sites. I would like it if I could specify for the program to close after completing a sync so that it would not be downloading during the week. It would also be helpful if the comparison/transfer part of the program could be run in a separate thread so that the user interface would not lockup so often.

Bug report:

The program will lockup when a ftp session fails (The firewall at a site causes this to happen often). The ftp software is unable to handle spaces in file/directory names. The ftp software cannot sync empty directories. When using the command interface /SYNCHRONIZE_LEFT_TO_RIGHT which is supposed to “automatically synchronize the left tree to the right tree WITHOUT ANY CONFIRMATION” I still receive prompt to confirm transfers which does not work well with scripts.

I'd like to transfer the TreeComp settings from desktop to laptop so synchs look the same from either computer. Right now I can do that only by fooling with the registry. Can they be saved in an ascii file? Or perhaps an advanced export/import ability?

Bug report:

Occasionally I get a "directory not present" error when directory really is there. It requires a re-read of the remote directory, accomplished by expanding and contracting a visible directory in the directory tree. It seems an initialization of the directory tree is missing.
